About the Department of Civil Engineering

Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Civil Engineering Department aims to contribute to our country by training civil engineers who have developed technical drawing, writing, and presentation skills; adopted interdisciplinary work; have decision-making ability; are aware of their professional responsibility and value engineering ethics.

In our department, there are 5 main branches of science: Geotechnics, Hydraulics, Mechanics, Transportation, and Structure, and seven faculty members with international experience and expertise in these branches.

There are three laboratories in our department where education and research activities are carried out.  

The education provided to students is prepared to best meet the needs of Civil Engineers today and in the future. Courses are additionally supported by seminars, technical trips, and international student exchange programs. From the beginning of undergraduate education, students are encouraged to take part in Scientific research projects, thus gaining R&D skills and entrepreneurial characteristics.

The language of instruction in our department is Turkish, and the duration of education is 8 semesters (4 years). Students who successfully complete the four-year education program are awarded a bachelor's degree and receive the title of Civil Engineer.

Our graduates have the opportunity to work in private engineering-architecture offices, construction companies, building inspection companies, and the public sector (Public Works, DSİ, Highways, Municipalities, etc.) with the title of civil engineer. Additionally, they are authorized to provide engineering services for all constructions, supervise all kinds of constructions, and act as site managers. Although the construction sector, which is the locomotive of the economy, experiences stagnant periods, it will continue to serve as long as humanity exists.

In our country, for a building project to obtain a construction permit from the relevant municipality, it must bear the signature indicating that it was made by a licensed Civil Engineer. Thanks to the "Building Inspection Regulation" implemented in our country in recent years, all types of construction are mandatorily inspected by building inspection companies, preventing mistakes and errors made especially during the manufacturing phase of the building. Building inspection companies create significant job potential for newly graduated Civil Engineers.

The presence of some associate degree programs related to Civil Engineering (Technical Sciences Vocational School, Construction Technology Program) within Mehmet Akif Ersoy University provides opportunities for cooperation in education and laboratory studies with the relevant programs.

Overseas Education Opportunities: Our students can go to study and intern in a European country for periods ranging from 3 to 12 months within the framework of the Erasmus program.

Farabi Student Exchange Program: Within the framework of this program, student exchanges can be made with other universities in Turkey for 1 or 2 semesters.

Double Major - Minor (double diploma) programs: Students are provided with the opportunity to study for a bachelor's degree in a second field simultaneously or to gain knowledge and receive a certificate of achievement in another field of interest within our faculty.

Optional English Preparatory Class: Students who choose our department can attend a one-year optional English Preparatory Program at our university's School of Foreign Languages. Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a Certificate of Achievement.

Graduate Follow-up and Career Planning Coordination: All our students are given the opportunity to realize their talents by organizing certificate programs to gain new skills, and each of our graduates is supported in their future by providing a diploma supplement (an internationally valid English transcript and diploma). By establishing close relationships with the business world, the job opportunities for our graduating students are being developed day by day.

In the Civil Engineering Department of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, the educational license of GEO5 Geotechnical Software provided by Fine Company is utilized.
