Architecture is the art of designing structures where people will live, considering principles of aesthetics and functionality. To achieve this goal, an architect examines whether the building to be constructed complies with the city development plan, learns the wishes, opinions, and financial capabilities of the people who will use the building, draws the building's plan, prepares models showing how the building will look when completed, collaborates with civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers on the building's static, sanitary installation, and electrical processes, supervises the execution, draws the detailed plan to be used on the construction site, checks whether the building is constructed according to the plan, and prepares plans for changes or repairs in buildings.
Architects can work in construction companies and engineering-architecture offices of businesses. They can also work in public institutions such as the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Development and Housing, the Bank of Provinces, municipalities, as well as in private companies, and they can open their own offices as freelancers.
The Architecture Department is a scientific field that contributes to the creation of vital necessities such as spatial design, organization, planning, and production. The primary aim of the Architecture Department within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University is to train professionals and researchers who can filter artistic realities related to architecture through artistic sensitivity and social awareness. It aims to train dynamic and competent architects who can access information in any environment, think aesthetically, question, advance knowledge, and transform knowledge, as well as contribute to the unique qualities of design products at every scale.
The Architecture Department aims to offer a high-quality program for students to follow and learn the latest technologies and to ensure their participation in practical and theoretical research. Although the architecture profession includes various subfields, it is design-oriented. Design involves planning and shaping the physical environment and buildings according to needs, using the necessary technology, materials, and equipment for construction. Creativity, drawing, and model-making skills play an important role in design. One of the most important aspects is the student's sensitivity to the physical environment, environmental etiquette, and environmental accumulation. Besides being a project and design architect, other fields where architects can work include site application, academia, professional supervision, and other building knowledge areas such as construction, material science, restoration, and decoration that support design. Therefore, in addition to the design courses given over 8 semesters, it is aimed for students to gain the ability to research, comprehend, criticize, interpret, and use in design or their field in theoretical courses and knowledge areas that support design courses.
