30 Middle School Students in Burdur Will Become Disaster Ambassadors

Burdur Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, within the scope of TÜBİTAK 4004 Nature and Science Schools Support Program, carried out the project “There is Someone Who Hears Your Voice in Nature: Science Crew Ready for Earthquake”. In the project led by Burdur Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Teacher Fatoş Çelik Erkan, Teacher Gözde Göker Uslu and our Faculty's Civil Engineering Department faculty member Dr. Lecturer Hakan Ulutaş took on the expertise role. In the project “There is Someone Who Hears Your Voice in Nature; Science Crew Ready for Earthquake”, activities were organized for 30 middle school students between September 1-6 for 6 days. Our Faculty's Landscape Architecture Department faculty member Assoc. Dr. H. Samet Aşıkkutlu contributed to the project with his training titled “Guess What: The city's young environmental engineers predict-learn emergency gathering areas”. 

 

The title of ‘Disaster Ambassador’ will be given to the students 


In the TÜBİTAK project carried out within the Burdur Provincial Directorate of National Education, supported by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Burdur Municipality, and AFAD Directorate, it is aimed that 30 middle school students, instead of fearing earthquakes, actively participate in activities prepared by bringing together earthquake expert scientists and professional groups and institutions related to the subject of earthquakes, benefiting from different disciplines of science and art, and to train disaster ambassadors ready for possible earthquakes with the equipment to serve the benefit of society. The project activities were crowned with events in nature, workshops, and laboratories. After the activities, students who will be given the title of Disaster Ambassador will be assigned to organize at least 5 events related to earthquakes in their schools.
