Call from MAKÜ Academic to Isparta: "Sidewalks Should Be Made Accessible for Everyone"
Yayın Tarihi | 13 June 2025, Friday
The research conducted by our faculty member Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yücedağ revealed that the sidewalks in the city center of Isparta are not sufficiently accessible for families with children, the elderly, and the disabled. Due to high and narrow sidewalks, uneven surfaces, and physical barriers, navigating the city with a stroller causes significant difficulties.
The study, by comparing the pedestrian infrastructure of Madrid and Isparta, highlighted that Isparta is far from being a child-friendly city. The obtained data reveal that the improvement efforts in the city remain superficial and that more sustainable and human-centered solutions are needed.
The researchers stated that sidewalks need to be redesigned, physical barriers removed, lighting systems improved, and regular maintenance of pedestrian paths conducted. Prof. Dr. Yücedağ emphasized that cities should be accessible for all individuals.
